What you need
The gateway
One CanCan running the Eco Sistems firmware, product ID 010010027. Use a CanCan v1 (software 5.11) — see the warning at the bottom of this page before choosing a v2.
On the watermaker side
| An Eco Sistems watermaker with its CAN interface | the gateway reads the status frames the unit's own controller broadcasts. The model reported to the boat is the Eco Sistems 48 V unit |
The watermaker must be commissioned and working on its own before the gateway is installed. The gateway reads a bus and forwards commands; it does not set the unit up, and it cannot make a unit that is not talking on its bus appear on the boat.
Wiring
| Connector | Goes to | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| CAN 1 | the boat's MUXEN bus | 500 kbit/s |
| CAN 2 | the Eco Sistems CAN bus | 250 kbit/s — fixed by the firmware, it cannot be changed by configuration |
The second bus speed is worth insisting on: the box's own settings and its board description say 500 kbit/s, and the firmware overrides that to 250 kbit/s every time it starts. Nothing you can write over the bus changes it. The watermaker must be on 250 kbit/s.
Both are ordinary 120 Ω CAN buses: two wires and a common ground, one 120 Ω termination at each physical end of each bus and nowhere else. The gateway is terminated only if it happens to be at the end of a segment. See The hardware.
The two buses stay electrically separate. Nothing crosses from the MUXEN bus to the watermaker except the commands this firmware deliberately translates.
The box's own inputs and outputs
Two relays, two dry-contact inputs, two analog inputs — available here as on every CanCan, and independent of the watermaker function. They are described in The hardware, with one difference worth knowing: on this firmware they start publishing as soon as the generic I/O device is given an instance number, whether or not EnGenIo has been set. See Reference — Eco Sistems gateway.
