The gateway
One serial gateway running the Blue Airco firmware, product ID 010010028. Two hardwares carry it:
| Hardware | ||
|---|---|---|
| 990010063 | CAN/Serial v2 | the production board — use this one for a new installation |
| 990010053 | CAN/Modbus | no longer built, still supported on boats that have one |
Both have four serial ports and one MUXEN CAN connector. The firmware behaves identically on the two.
On the Blue Airco side
| Blue Airco units with their own controller | the machines keep their own panel and their own protections. The gateway reads what the controller answers and writes back the same on/off and set-point the panel writes |
| A Modbus RTU connection per unit | two wires and a common ground, brought to one of the gateway's four serial ports |
The air conditioning must be installed, commissioned and working before the gateway is fitted. The gateway polls a Modbus line; it does not set up an air conditioner.
Both generations are recognised — the EVO units and the pre-EVO ones — and the gateway works out which is which by itself. Nothing has to be declared.
Wiring
| Connector | Goes to | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| CAN | the boat's MUXEN bus | 500 kbit/s |
| Serial 1 … 4 | one Blue Airco unit each | 9600 8N1 — fixed by the firmware |
Each serial port is driven as a 2-wire half-duplex RS-485 line, and the firmware switches the on-board line termination on at every start. Neither can be changed by configuration, so the unit at the far end must be at 9600 bauds, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and it must be the only device on that line.
One unit per port
Every port talks to Modbus slave address 1 and only to that address. Two units on one line both answer, and the port sees garbage. Set every unit to address 1 and give each its own port.
Ports are independent: a unit lost on one port changes nothing on the other three, and each port keeps its own MUXEN identity.
The MUXEN bus is an ordinary 120 Ω CAN bus: two wires and a common ground, one 120 Ω termination at each physical end and nowhere else. The gateway is terminated on that side only if it happens to be at the end of a segment.
The MUXEN bus and the Modbus lines stay electrically separate. Nothing from the MUXEN bus reaches a unit except the on/off and set-point writes this firmware deliberately translates.
The box's own inputs and outputs
This firmware exposes, as a separate generic I/O device:
| One relay | driven from the MUXEN bus, channel 0 |
| One analog input | reported in millivolts |
They are independent of the air-conditioning function. Give the I/O device an instance number of its own, and set EnGenIo to 1 — it publishes nothing until you do. See Reference.
Power and the batteries
The gateway switches a unit off on its own when the battery park that unit is bound to is in trouble — see Commissioning, step 6. Decide at wiring time which park each unit belongs to, or leave it standalone and the gateway will never stop it for an electrical reason.
