J1939 gateway (010010034) — Overview

This firmware puts a J1939 marine genset on the MUXEN bus. The genset keeps its own control panel and its own wiring; the gateway listens to its J1939 bus, and republishes what it says as a MUXEN generator device — state, engine speed, output voltage, temperature — so that the boat's screens show the genset next to the batteries and the chargers, with no indication that it came from somewhere else.

The genset finds its own place. There is nothing to declare. When a genset introduces itself on the J1939 bus, the gateway reads its J1939 identity, recognises the family it belongs to, and creates the matching MUXEN device on the spot. The MUXEN instance number it takes is the genset's own J1939 instance, so a boat with two identical gensets gets two distinct devices without anyone typing a number.

Two families are recognised, and they are not translated to the same depth:

Everything else on the J1939 bus is heard, politely asked to introduce itself, and then ignored.

What it is not

• It is not a translator for any J1939 engine. Only the two families above are translated. A propulsion engine, or a genset from another manufacturer, will claim its address on the bus and then produce nothing on the MUXEN side.
• It does not replace the genset's own controller. The gateway can ask a Fischer Panda to start and to stop; every protection, every cut-out and every alarm decision stays with the genset.
• It does not command a Cummins Onan. That profile reads.

Which of the three J1939 products to fit

Three CanCan products are built on the same J1939 translation:
